Our commitment
We take your privacy seriously
Financial advice does not work without a full and honest picture of your circumstances. That means you hand us a great deal of sensitive information, and you are entitled to know exactly what happens to it.
Betterment Financial Planning Pty Ltd is subject to the requirements of the Privacy Act 1988 and has adopted the Australian Privacy Principles. We follow those Principles in the collection, use, storage and disposal of your personal information. Betterment has developed a privacy policy for this business based on the Australian Privacy Principles. We will make you aware of that policy at the time we give you our Financial Services Guide, and we will provide a copy of it on request.
The law
The Privacy Act 1988
The Privacy Act 1988 (“Privacy Act”) regulates the handling of personal information about individuals. This includes the collection, use, storage and disclosure of personal information, and access to and correction of that information. The Privacy Act includes:
- 13 Australian Privacy Principles that apply to the handling of personal information by most Australian and Norfolk Island Government agencies and some private sector organisations; and
- credit reporting provisions that apply to the handling of credit-related personal information that credit providers are permitted to disclose to credit reporting bodies for inclusion on individuals’ credit reports.
This Act is designed to protect the privacy rights of individuals particularly in relation to accessing records of individuals.

We are also required under the Anti-Money-Laundering and Counter-Terrorism Financing Act (AML/CTF) 2006 to implement client identification processes. We will need you to present identification documents such as passports and driver’s licences in order to meet our obligations.
